Even WWE wrestlers who have everything they want fail before they make it big. Just like Dwayne Johnson wanted to play in the NFL, John Cena wanted to join the military. While one thing led to another, Cena excelled at bodybuilding which led to him signing up with WWE and the rest is history. But his ties to the military only deepened while he was with WWE.

Struggling on the Tribute to the Troops shows to meet Army officers while on tour was how Cena connected with many officials over the years. Even his first movie in 2006 was based on the stories of the Marines. So just imagine what would have happened to a man who insulted an officer in front of the 16-time champion on a reality TV show.

When on an episode of American Grit, a contestant disrespected a veteran, Cena was furious. He said to the man: “There is no way I can question your athleticism. To me, your character may be at stake. Your mentor is an artillery sergeant in the US Marine Corps. When you turned 10 years old, she was in boot camp kicking men. When you got your diving license, she was in combat in Iraq.”

American Grit was a show where the contestants had to show their perseverance by competing in teams under a veteran. The challenges were designed with an army and military aesthetic and tested their mettle in difficult situations.

Fox aired two seasons of the show, both hosted by former WWE World Champion, John Cena. While there’s no chance of Cena doing something like that again, it would be nice to see him do another Marines movie.
