Turmeric Benefit #1: Lowers the risk of diabetes
Turmeric is packed with curcuminoids, anti-inflammatory compounds that, according to researchers report in the journal Diabetes care, can help prevent diabetes. As? The researchers’ randomized trial found that curcuminoids improved the function of cells that produce and release insulin (known as beta cells). Pre-diabetic study participants who consumed turmeric every day for nine months did not develop type 2 diabetes.
Turmeric Benefit #2: Supports Weight Loss Efforts
Adding turmeric to your daily diet may help you lose weight faster, suggests a 2019 review of studies. One key finding: Taking curcumin (a compound in turmeric) every day reduced body mass index in participants with the disease non-alcoholic fatty liver after eight weeks. Similar research published in the journal Drug Research (Stuttgart) found that participants who consumed saffron daily lost significantly more belly fat in eight weeks than those who did not consume saffron.
Turmeric Benefit #3: Improves mood
Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory compounds can also help you feel more cheerful. That’s the word from researchers reporting in the journal Phytotherapy Research. In their small study, six weeks of daily consumption of curcumin helped reduce symptoms of major depressive disorder in patients.
