LIVINGSTON — Trained and certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon Charles DiCorte, MD, has joined North Oaks Cardiovascular Services in Hammond and is accepting new patient referrals for Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery.
The Doctor. DiCorte received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He completed a general surgery internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and a general surgery residency at the Ochsner Clinic and Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans.
He then completed fellowships in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and heart and lung transplantation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Born in Louisiana, Dr. DiCorte has been practicing on the North Shore for 24 years.
As the newest member of the North Oaks team of cardiovascular service providers, Dr. DiCorte said, “Until recently, cardiovascular surgeons working at North Oaks Medical Center also covered several other Northshore facilities. Now, we will be able to more efficiently and effectively dedicate our time exclusively to patients in North Oaks, allowing residents of Tangipahoa and surrounding parishes to receive more focused care – especially for lung cancer, coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.”
Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery describes any surgical procedure that involves the lungs, chest, heart, or the blood vessels that carry blood to and from the heart. Some of these conditions require open surgery, but many conditions can now be treated with less invasive procedures such as robotic surgery and endovascular surgery. It is common for patients with lung cancer, heart disease, heart attack, aneurysm and stroke to require these types of procedures.
The Doctor. DiCorte noted, “It’s important that my patients understand their options and choose how to get their care. I like to lay out all the options, the pros and cons of each, and my recommendation for ensuring they are involved in their health decisions.
“I feel privileged to be allowed and trusted to provide life-changing and sometimes life-saving surgeries for my patients,” continued Dr. DiCorte. “As a surgeon, I believe I can make an immediate positive impact on the health of patients who entrust their care to me and, together with their primary care physicians, cardiologists and pulmonologists, I can improve people’s lives and health.”
He added, “My fellowship training was excellent and covered all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. I continue to develop my training and evolve as a surgeon, embracing emerging techniques and technologies, such as robotic surgical procedures, to enhance the care and options I can offer my patients.”
Professionally, Dr. DiCorte is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the American Medical Association.
“Enhancing our ability to provide advanced cardiac health care in our region is a priority for North Oaks Health System, as demonstrated by continued investments in our people, technology and systems,” said Mark Anderson, chief financial officer of North Oaks Health System. “We are fortunate to have Dr. DiCorte on our team helping people living with acute and chronic heart disease through their talents and experience.”
