Hitmaker “My Heart Will Go On” Celine Dione, 54, is one of the most popular singers in the industry. Not only did she perform the iconic song of the Titanic film, but she won a total of five Grammy Awards during her career. Plus, the blonde beauty has become a Las Vegas residency legend with over 15 years of residency under her belt! However, amid her recent health crisis in December 2022, Celine had to take some time off to recover and postpone her 2023 tours. Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff person syndrome
Celine shocked the world with grim news on December 8, 2022, when she revealed her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) with an emotional video on social media. The rare disease, which often affects “about one or two people in a million”, is known to cause a range of neurological health problems, according to John Hopkins Medicine.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to contact you,” Celine said in an Instagram video at the time. “I miss you all so much and can’t wait to be on stage to talk to you in person. As you know, I’ve always been an open book and wasn’t ready to say anything before. But I’m ready now. I’ve been dealing with health issues for a long time and it’s been very difficult for me to deal with these challenges and talk about all that I’ve been through. Recently I was diagnosed with very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome, which affects around one in a million people.
How long has she been sick
The 54-year-old has been struggling with SPS for over a year as she also had to postpone her tours to April 2022. “I am so sorry that we have to change our tour plans for Europe once again. ; first we had to move the shows because of the pandemic, now it’s my health issues that are causing us to postpone the shows. I’m doing a little better…but I’m still having spasms,” she revealed via Instagram on April 29, 2022. The mom of three not only had to postpone the tour to April 2022, but she was also forced to do the same in December of that year as his condition had not improved enough to return to the stage.
In April, Celine said she was “getting a bit better”, however, the recovery was “going very slow”. And eight months later, unfortunately, Celine was not recovering as quickly as she had hoped. The condition affects his ability to walk, use his vocal cords at “100%” capacity, and more. “I have a great team of doctors working by my side to help me get better, and my precious children, who support me and give me hope,” Celine assured her supporters in December. “I work hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to rebuild my strength and my ability to perform again.

The talented entertainer also opened up about the condition in January 2022, however, she had yet to reveal the official diagnosis. Celine released a statement via Instagram and shared with her 5.5 million followers that “severe and persistent muscle spasms” are “preventing her from performing.”
How is she today
More recently, Celine appears to be on the mend, as she created new music for the 2023 film, love one more timefeaturing Priyanka Chopra. More so, the Canada native will appear in the film alongside Priyanka and ForeignIt is Sam Heughan. Celine took to Instagram in November 2022, just weeks before her diagnosis clip, to announce her appearance in the romantic comedy. “See you at the movies! Céline stars alongside @priyankachopra and @samheughan and releases new music for the romantic comedy LOVE ONCE AGAIN (new title!) hits theaters MAY 12 (new date!),” his team captioned the post.
Also, his sister Claudette Dion74, reportedly spoke to local media in Canada about his sister’s latest health update, as reported by Brand. “I am convinced that life will give back to her because she is an extremely intelligent, very generous and talented woman and in love with life too,” Claudette said of Celine in January 2023. “Rather than to cry over her fate, I try to send her positive vibes in the hope that one day she will come back on stage. I truly believe in the power of love. I wish her good luck, that’s for sure. She is surrounded by specialists as she works to recover.
