This job isn’t much different,” the new mom tells PEOPLE . “‘Baby Bridget – can you give us a comment? Are you hungry or gassy, or both?’ Trying to get an official answer is tough!”
Vaughn reveals his water broke on his way to Capitol Hill, but the mom-to-be was “prepared.”

“I knew where all the offices were for Senators who were doctors. Senator Barrasso (Doctor of the Year in Wyoming) saw me the day before I went into labor and told me to contact me if I ever needed anything. Luckily, I didn’t have to call him to pick up the baby!”
“I’ve only been a mom for a week, but it’s already the best assignment I’ve ever had. She stole the show!”
Doocy jokes about some of the name suggestions he received at the White House during his press conferences before Bridget was born.
“During a briefing last month, the publicist gave me permission to name little Karine and I joked that we were considering naming the little girl after the president: ‘Joe-sephine.’ But we can report here for first time her name is Bridget Blake Doocy,” she tells PEOPLE.
The photos show the couple enjoying their newborn daughter, who is wearing a pink onesie with her name embroidered on the front, paired with a matching pink bow. Also excited about the new addition is Steve Doocy, FOX and friends host and new grandpa.
Congratulating his son on this new stage in life, Steve tells PEOPLE: “When I wrote a book about fatherhood, I highlighted a famous quote that said, ‘There are three stages in a man’s life: He believes in Santa Claus. , you don’t believe in Santa Claus, he is Santa Claus.’ Peter, congratulations, you’ve just made it to the third round of paternity.”
“The day Peter was born in George Washington Hospital — not far from the White House, while his mother Kathy was suffering from life-threatening contractions — she turned to me and said, ‘When should we set up a college fund?’ My wife looked like a Morgan Stanley ad,” laughs Steve.
“I replied ‘Why bother?’ unaware of the power of 20 years of compound interest. Instead, I said, ‘Hand me PEOPLE magazine, I want to do the crossword puzzle.’ True story. And today, PEOPLE magazine announces Peter’s baby, even though it seems more appropriate than l ‘announcement comes from the Department of Labor (and Childbirth),” she shares.
The proud new grandfather is thrilled at the opportunity for him and wife Kathy to go “from rule-maker to rule-breaker”.

“Our nephew wants Dairy Queen for dinner – again? Let’s go!” she jokes. “Watching our children become good parents is absolutely heartwarming, Kathy and I are ready to spoil our rotten grandchildren. We promise we will never run out of hugs or candy.”
Steve also shares that the family learned the baby’s name shortly before she was born. “What they didn’t know before giving birth was that their little Bridget would be born on 1 February, which is St Bridget’s Day! She was the patron saint of children of Ireland – what are the odds? Legend has it that St Bridget miraculously changed water into beer. Let’s hope Bridget Doocy waits until she’s at least 21 to test this skill,” she jokes.
