A day that could have been spent bonding over food and play has led an aunt to take her nephew on a secret trip to the hairdresser.
When a woman was in charge of her young nephew for a day, she took to TikTok to share a joke she made about her sister.
But what the aunt didn’t realize was the line she had crossed and the backlash she would receive from irate parents after the post went live.
As she cringingly revealed in the viral video, she took her nephew to a hair salon to get a haircut without his mother’s knowledge.
“My sister left me in charge of her kid, so I thought it would be funny to take him to a hairdresser and play a prank,” she secretly explained in her TikTok.
“My nephew had hat hair, so I made a mullet out of it”
In an earlier shot, she held the little boy in front of a mirror for a selfie with his tousled “hat hair.”
“It’s a bit messy, you have some hat hair,” she exclaimed sheepishly.
The footage cuts to the brave boy sitting in a toy car in the salon as the barber shaves each side of his head and styles his hair in a classic style.
“Do you like it?” she asked her cousin excitedly.
“Yaahhh,” he replied shyly.
“How’s it a ‘joke’ when you actually got his hair cut?”
The creator was clearly very pleased with herself and reminded her followers to stay tuned for her sister’s response.
While the aunt’s intent was to create comedic content, while we’ve yet to hear how her sister reacted to her son’s going wild, the reaction on TikTok was far from cheerful.
“Mouth dropped. I’m not a mother, but I would NEVER do that as an aunt,” one aunt countered.
Serious question. How is it a ‘joke’ when you actually got his haircut? A joke would be to pretend you have his haircut, wouldn’t it? replied a confused follower.
“Never cut someone else’s child’s hair without asking. But it looks cute,” exclaimed one seriously conflicted follower.
“HAIR IS GROWING BACK KARENS,” raged a fed-up woman who clearly saw no harm.
“I wouldn’t be mad if my sister did this to my kid!”
Others claimed the woman knows her sister well enough to know it would be taken lightly.
“People pretending she doesn’t know her own sister enough to know this was okay to do,” one follower laughed.
