International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) Communication Science Fellowship 2023

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is currently accepting applications for its summer Science Communication Fellowship 2023. The scholarship starts on May 22 and ends on September 1. The fellowship covers travel costs to and from IIASA (near Vienna, Austria) and the fellow’s home country at the start and end of the fellowship, as well as a modest stipend to offset living expenses during the scholarship period.

The Science Communication Fellow will gain experience communicating complex systems science to a general audience through a variety of platforms, including blogs, website content, social media, videos, and articles for our magazine, Choice. The successful candidate will work in IIASA’s Communications and External Relations (CER) department, assisting in a variety of duties including web publishing, media relations, event coverage, multimedia, media social and other communication activities. The Fellow will also work closely with IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) participants and IIASA scientists, producing several works spanning their research.

Eligibility criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in science Where journalism, and/or current student or graduate of a science journalism program
  • Applicants from all countries are welcome, but IIASA gives priority to citizens or residents of countries in which IIASA has a member organization. We encourage applications from developing countries

Advantages

A monthly salary based on a gross annual salary of EUR 18,800.00, exempt from income tax in Austria.

  • Subject to health insurance and/or social security levies.

Appointment conditions

  • The 2023 Science Communication Fellowship runs from May 22 to September 1, 2023 and selected applicants will be required to be at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, Austria for the entire period.
  • IIASA does not provide housing or additional funding for housing. Science Communication Fellows are not eligible for relocation, settling-in or other allowances. Travel costs from the home country to and from the institute will be covered by IIASA.
