Facial Lounge Orange County – Expert Tips for Glowing Skin

There are so many things to look forward to in the winter months, like getting out of those cozy sweaters, enjoying warm food and drink and getting ready to spend the holidays with friends and family. However, there’s one aspect of winter we’re definitely not a fan of – and that’s dry, irritated skin and unexpected acne flare-ups. Happy, celebrity skin whisperer Amber Johnson and her skincare clinic, Facial loungeare here to help.

Known for taking a bespoke, holistic approach to skincare, Facial lounge has two beautiful locations: the original in Corona del Mar and the newest in Costa Mesa. The spa was founded in 2000 and was one of the first vegan and non-toxic spas in Orange County. Facial lounge used alone non-toxic, wholesome ingredients in its products and spa servicesmaking them perfect for everyone, including vegans and/or pregnant women.

The treatments at Facial lounge are for both men and women, with services suitable for all skin types, ethnicities and age groups. Their bespoke vegan facial is designed specifically for your skin’s needs, including deep cleansing, ozone steam and extractions followed by a bespoke mask or peel, then a relaxing lymphatic drainage facial, neck, shoulder, arm and hand massage. The grand finale of their facial is the beloved cryosphere massage to close the pores and soothe the skin.

Ready to put your best face forward? Here are Johnson’s top five tips for keeping your skin happy and healthy this winter season.

1 | Do the dishes

Try this: Gentle facial cleanser

Give your skin care routine a clean start by washing your hands before you start touching and washing your face. “Not only will your laundry lather more easily, but you’ll also prevent bacteria on your hands from getting into your face or eyes,” says Johnson. She also recommends double cleansing to prepare for bed. “Washing your face twice removes oil, makeup and sweat from your busy day. It also prepares the skin for your nightly routine. Facial Lounge moisturizing cleanser is a three-in-one cleaner; it not only cleanses your skin but also balances your skin’s pH so you don’t need toner. An added bonus is that you can use the cleanser as a makeup brush cleaner. It cleans the brushes thoroughly without drying them out.

2 | Ice cream baby

Icing the skin has a number of benefits, including eliminating puffiness, reducing oil and, according to Johnson, reducing acne. “It’s good to rinse off your cleanser with cool water, but icing your skin — especially for acne — is great,” Johnson shares. “I worked for Dr. Fulton (co-inventor of Retin-A). He did a lot of acne studies and one of the best things they found was ice cream. Not only does it help with inflammation, but it also helps to heal and soothe the skin.”

3 | SPF is not enough

Try this: Barrier Repair Antioxidant Booster

One of the biggest problems winter skin brings is UV damage – and the best way to fight UV damage is by using antioxidants. Although the sun does not shine as it does during the hot summer months, it is still there. While sunscreen is an absolute must for skin care, UV protection starts from within. “Believe it or not, a lot of sun damage isn’t due to the sun, but what you eat,” explains Johnson. “People who eat a lot of dark berries and dark leafy vegetables have less sun damage, [and] drinking alcohol in the sun increases your risk of sunburn.” Make sure to take antioxidants both internally and as part of your skin care routine. The topical Barrier Repair Antioxidant Booster can be mixed with any moisturizer to add 18 antioxidants to your daily routine.

4 | Gut health

Anyone who has taken a close look at their health, whether for medical or aesthetic reasons, can attest to the importance of a healthy gut biome. It is central to your overall health, inside and out! “If you have an unhealthy gut, it will show in your skin. A healthy gut means healthy skin and a healthy mind,” says Johnson. “Avoid foods that disrupt a healthy gut biome, such as soda, alcohol, gluten, sugar and dairy, and add antioxidants and natural probiotics such as dark leafy greens and dark berries.”

5 | Clean ingredients

Try this: Feather-light Miracle Moisturizer

“There are so many toxic ingredients in skin care, cleaning products, and body care products,” Johnson shares, shedding light on an issue close to people’s hearts. Facial lounge‘s mission to use only pure, clean ingredients. “It is important to avoid ingredients such as toluene, benzoyl peroxide, parabens, propylene glycol and triclosan. Not only are these ingredients toxic to your health, but they also harm your skin health. Using healthy, natural ingredients helps your skin now and in the future.
