Child hospitalized with severe flu, while fears of the Ministry of Health are spreading

An 11-month-old baby was diagnosed with a serious case of the flu on Wednesday as the Health Ministry warned of an increase in hospitalizations due to the contagious disease and urged the public to get vaccinated.

The boy was admitted to the pediatric emergency wing of Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba in serious condition after suffering from uncontrollable seizures and respiratory illness and tested positive for influenza A virus, the hospital said.

“This is the second child who recently arrived in the pediatric emergency room due to neurological complications from influenza A. It is recommended to avoid influenza illnesses and its complications by vaccinating infants and children,” the hospital said, referring even to a case of flu in a 13-year-old boy last month.

Meanwhile, the health ministry said on Thursday that 340 patients were admitted to hospital with confirmed cases of the flu between October and last Saturday, 116 of whom were hospitalized in the past week, marking a 30% increase from the previous week. .

The ministry urged the public, especially people aged 65 and over, to get the flu shot, noting that it can prevent the spread of the disease.

So far this year, 13.2 percent of health insurance members in Israel have received the flu shot, including 49.8 percent of those aged 65 and over, the ministry said.

Israeli policy said straight

I joined The Times of Israel after many years covering US and Israeli policy for Jewish news.

I believe that responsible coverage of Israeli politicians means presenting a 360-degree view of their words and actions, conveying not only what is happening, but also what it means in the broader context of Israeli society and the region.

It’s hard to do because you can rarely take politicians at face value: you have to do what you can to present the full context and try to overcome your biases.

I am proud of our work which tells the story of Israeli politics direct and complete. I believe Israel is stronger and more democratic when professional journalists do that hard work well.

Your support for our work by joining The community of the time of Israel it helps ensure that we can continue to do so.

Thank you,
