Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Tennis Coach Ricardo Sipala today announced the hiring of Arielle Shuren as a technical assistant for the men’s and women’s programs. A four-letter winner at the University of Delaware, Shuren brings a plethora of tennis knowledge and coaching experience to Pride.Shuren came to Hofstra after spending time as an assistant coach for the St. Louis women’s tennis program. John’s. Prior to that, she served as a volunteer coaching assistant at Rutgers University.
“I’m happy that Arielle is joining me at Hofstra,” said coach Sipala. “She is a talented player and an exceptional coach. I look forward to seeing her work with our student-athletes.”
A graduate of the University of Delaware in 2018, Shuren has played in both singles and doubles, earning many accolades along the way. She has won multiple CAA Player of the Week awards, won doubles championships at Navy and Saint Joseph’s Invitationals, and was an ITA Atlantic Regional singles and doubles participant.
Shuren also competed in several Women’s Tennis Association tour events and won the Mount Vernon Mixed Doubles Title with partner Daniel Piludo. In 2022, Shuren was selected as one of six women to represent Team USA at the Maccabiah International Games held in Jerusalem, Israel. She advanced to the quarterfinals in women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles at the event.
In the classroom, Shuren was on the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll as a health and behavioral sciences specialist with a specialization in health, physical activity, and disability. She then went on to earn a master’s degree in Delaware in clinical exercise physiology. Shuren uses her unique scientific training methods to bring out the best performance in the student-athletes she coaches.
As a certified instructor and member of the Professional Tennis Registry, Shuren has spent many years coaching high-performance junior players and has been an instructor at West Point Military Academy and Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She also served as director of tennis at Spring Lake Camp in New Jersey. Shuren currently coaches several WTA touring professionals and has worked as a high performance fitness coach at Magnus Potential in New Jersey. She completed internships at the United States Tennis Association and the Titus Sports Academy. Additionally, Shuren has worked as a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation for Northwell Health.
