68 new Food for Life gurus of plant-based nutrition from around the world

The new instructors, who speak 13 languages ​​between them, have completed eight weeks of intensive training and will soon begin teaching classes in their communities. New American trainers include Vicki Beam in Oklahoma and Chinese White in Kansas, two new Food for Life states. Ukiah Valley, California Adventist Health trained to become the Food for Life Foundation.

Many new trainers have inspiring stories about their personal health triumphs that have resulted from a plant-based diet – from surviving cancer and heart attacks to overcoming endometriosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Instructors and organizations also include doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, chefs, and a registered dietitian. Almost a third of the coaches are people of color.

Food for Life Training has also awarded scholarships and grants to 20 trainers and organizations who have demonstrated financial need and commitment to reaching underserved communities. More than half of the new trainers and organizations seek to reach disadvantaged communities.

Recipients of grants and grants include Vicki Beam, who has personal relationships with the Native American community and plans to teach classes for four Native American nations in her region.

Chenese White works with a local nonprofit organization that provides boxes to seniors and other needy community members. She plans to use her connections through that organization and local churches to reach people living in areas affected by apartheid, those who are food insecure, and low-income youth and mothers.

In Texas, David Trevino plans to use his years volunteering for a homeless shelter and his connections to other community service providers to reach the underprivileged Spanish-speaking population in his community.

And in India, Archana Saraf plans to leverage its participation in the Sustainable Living Initiative to reach low-income people, youth, cancer survivors, and women’s groups.
